Deflation- an urban legend

An urban legend is a modern version of a fairy tale and a gracious subject of study for the modern folklorist.   A story circulating amongst folks about some event purported to have happened and often associated with some dire consequences. The roots of the story may be in some event that actually has happened, or in pure imagination of the originator (this could have happen if). What is puzzling to any skeptical person, is how widely repeated and believed those stories could be. But, at some point most of us did believe in Santa Claus, Tooth Fairy, mermaids and dragons. As adults now we do believe in Peak Oil, Organic Food, Global Warming and some of us do believe in Deflation- that's the human nature.
